The road from Kandy into the hills passes tea estates, viewpoints and waterfalls. Here is what to look for and how to plan the stops on a private car trip.
The A5 road climbs out of Kandy through rubber and tea country, then into the hills where the estates run along both sides of the road. The views change quickly, and the road has many bends, so a slow and steady drive suits it best.
Our Kandy to Nuwara Eliya page gives the route, the fixed sedan rate and the drive time.
Tell us which stops you want when you book, so the timing fits your day.
Some estates have factories where you can see how the leaves are dried and sorted. Factory tickets and tastings are paid at the venue. They are not part of the car price.
A bus runs up this road often, but it is crowded and makes many stops. A private car lets you choose the stops and go at your own pace, and it takes your luggage without a change.
For a larger group or heavy bags, ask about a van. Van quotes are given on WhatsApp for each trip.
The route page gives about 2.5 to 3 hours of driving. Allow 3.5 to 4 hours with photo stops.
Photo stops on the road are free on our trips. Factory tickets and tastings are paid separately. Ask us what the quote covers before you book.
