Delft has no cars for visitors, so getting around is slower and more relaxed. Here is how to move between the sights and plan your return boat.
Delft has no cars for visitors. People move around by bicycle, on foot or by tuk-tuk between the settlements. Some guesthouses rent bicycles. Plan your day around that pace, and allow more time than you would on the mainland.
Tuk-tuk and open truck tours are a practical way to see the island in one go. Agree the price and the route with the driver before you set off, and check whether the price is for the whole group or for each person.
A bicycle gives you the most freedom. Ask your guesthouse for one when you arrive, and check the brakes and tyres before you ride. Roads between the sights are mostly flat and quiet, but sand and loose stones can catch you out.
A half day covers the main stops at an easy pace. A full day gives you time to rest, eat and see more. Whatever you choose, keep the return boat in mind, and leave yourself enough time to get back to the jetty before it leaves.
If you want a driver to bring you to the jetty and back, see our Delft private car guide. For the boat times, read the jetty ferry times guide.
Visitors do not use cars on the island. Bicycles, walking and tuk-tuks are the main ways to get around.
