A private car is the simplest way from Kandy to Galle. Our route page gives a fixed rate of LKR 30,000 per vehicle, and the trip takes 3.5 to 4.5 hours. The route can use the Southern Expressway, which is faster, or the coastal road, which is more scenic. See the Kandy to Galle route page.
Buses and trains run between Kandy and the south coast, but the trip usually means at least one change and a long day. They are the lower-cost options. They suit travellers who have time and can carry their own bags.
The Southern Expressway is a toll motorway along the south coast. Our fixed rate includes the tolls, the fuel and the driver's time, so there are no toll surprises on the day. The expressway is the fastest option when you want to reach Galle quickly.
The coastal road through Bentota and Hikkaduwa takes longer, but it passes beaches and coral-reef stops. Tell us which route you prefer, and we plan the day around it.
Our Kandy to Mirissa page and Kandy to Unawatuna page give the fixed rates for those beaches.
